I keep a strictly edited collection of cookbooks and will only buy a new volume when I know it will be used.

So here’s my ultimate list of the exceptional food writers of this world –in my humble opinion:

Nigel Slater
The one and only; not just an imaginative cook, but also a wonderful writer whose books I cherish.
If I ever had to choose only 5 of his masterpieces (well you never know when this undesirable situation may arise), it would have to be:
Tender Volume I: A cook and his vegetable patch
Tender Volume II: A guide to the fruit garden
The Kitchen Diaries II: A year of simple cooking
Toast: The story of a boy’s hunger (not technically a cookbook I know, but still a wonderful bed time read)

Nigella Lawson
The absolute life/time-saver in the kitchen:
Nigella Express

Rachel Khoo
The ‘new’ kid on the block, this book takes me on a trip down memory lane, with a modern twist:
The Little Paris Kitchen: Classic French recipes with a fresh & fun approach

Rosie Lovell
Music, words and food for the soul:
Spooning with Rosie

Dan Lepard
Let me eat cake:
Short & Sweet
